Tear secretion (Lacrimation)

There are two types of tear secretion - basal and reflex. Basal tears are constantly secreted and serve to lubricate the eye. Reflex tears are secreted as a result of eye irritation and help to wash out any particles or irritants. Reflex tears can be triggered by strong vapors, bright light, or dirt or other particles in the eye.
