Sodium Hyaluronate
Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of living organisms. However, in a physiological environment, it is not featured in its acid form but as the sodium or potassium salt called hyaluronan or hyaluronate. As it is natural to the human body, lenses enriched with this material are well-tolerated and comfortable to wear. It can be found in body fluids, cartilage, skin, vitreous and umbilical cord.
Biological features of hyaluronic acid
- can hold about 1,000 times its weight in water, which makes it a unique moisturizer
- anti-inflammatory effect
- antibacterial and antiviral effect
- enhances skin healing and reduces the appearance of scars, when used in plastic surgery
Sodium Hyaluronate in Contact Lenses The contact lens care industry uses sodium hyaluronate as a lubricating agent in eye drops and contact lens solutions. Due to its properties, it is excellent for supplying the contact lenses with required moisture without any irritation. Using a contact lens solution or eye drops containing this substance makes the contact lenses smoother and more pliable, and thus more comfortable to wear. Sodium hyaluronate supplies the eyes with necessary moisture and thereby eliminates uncomfortable feeling of dryness and burning while providing the necessary conditions for eye cell regeneration.
Some manufacturers already include this exceptional lubricating substance in the production of their contact lenses. Thanks to this substance, oxygen permeates in the lens more efficiently, stays within and is then slowly released for several hours, ensuring effective eye lubrication. Currently on the market, only TopVue contact lenses from the leading manufacturer PegaVision contain sodium hyaluronate.
Other products containing sodium hyaluronate in our shop include: Gelone solution, LAIM-CARE solution, LAIM-CARE gel drops and TopVue contact lenses.
