Material porosity

Porosity is a property of the contact lens material that is responsible for the passage or avoidance of substances. The porosity is determined by the chemical structure of the polymer and the accepted amount of water. Pores of size 2 – 3 Nm prevent help to entry of viruses, bacteria and fungi into the eye. However, low molecular weight substances like water, salt and gases may still permeate these structures.
